History: wiki
The Cat came into existence at the beginning of time at the will of Father Universe and Mother Flame, like all other divine beings of his universe. While other constellations keep to the stars that make them up, he has been known to wander throughout the different realms. He became close with the Great Mother Goddess, Queen of the Gods and patron of animals, and often accompanied her on visits to the Mortal Realms. He has been known to help or hinder mortals as he pleases, though within limits. He has no power over the Gods, and the Gods have no power over him, but in mortal affairs the Gods have authority and may punish him for too strongly influencing the course of history.

For a time he accompanied the Provost's Guard Rebakah Cooper, giving her company and advice as her pet cat. He helps her in small ways, sometimes by joining in a fight, creating a distraction, stealing small items or acting as a liaison with other animals. None of this is considered excessive interference until an investigation nearly kills Beka's scent hound Achoo, and the Cat (known then as Pounce) uses his divine power to heal the dog's wound. The investigation is one that has a serious impact on human history, and Achoo is a vital player. Pounce is then punished with banishment to his own stars for 200 years, but is permitted to remain in the Mortal Realms long enough to attend Beka's wedding.

200 years later, he returns to the Mortal Realms with the Great Mother Goddess to watch over her chosen warrior, Alanna. She names him Faithful, and he accompanies her as she trains to be a knight while disguising herself as a boy. He is a great comfort and help to the lady knight, but is killed in her defense during an attempted coup at King Jonathan's coronation. This event also has a serious impact on human history, but as Faithful used no magic it could not be considered divine interference, only the noble sacrifice of a cat.

Personality:
Pros:

Cats are curious creatures, and this one is no exception. He leaves the realm of constellations and wanders the Divine and Mortal Realms for no better reason than this, at the start. When he begins mentoring humans it isn’t because the Great Goddess asks him to, but rather because it’s interesting to him. He would be bored if he kept to his stars all day, but there is always something new to experience in the world of humans. He watches them interact with their world, with the Gods, and with each other. He gets to know them personally, becoming a part of their lives, so that he can experience these marvels for himself. He has a level of attachment to the Mortal Realm that no God does, even those with a particular fondness of humans.

In learning about humans and taking part of their lives, he comes to love the people around him. Though he plays the part of a pet, he behaves and feels more like a parental figure for those he looks after. He is often teasing and playful, dedicating as much time and effort to cheering up his friends as to teaching them. He protects his wards when they need it, and fails to protect them when they might learn from it. He worries after them and acts as a chaperone, even a matchmaker at times. Even though he’s immortal and has lived dozens of lives over billions of years, he truly lives in the moment and gives himself fully to his chosen people.

A noble creature, the Cat is always dignified, tidy, and poised. While some cats might be troublemakers, and his humans certainly think of him as one at times, the Cat never causes a disturbance without cause and never leaves a mess. Even when circumstances are dire he can be relied upon to stay calm, keep a cool head, and act as an anchor for his friends to rally around. While he isn’t always the most diplomatic, he doesn’t truly make enemies of others. The only exception is Duke Roger, who puts himself explicitly in opposition of the Gods and all things divine, the Cat included. Otherwise, even the people he snubs don’t think of him of much more than an indifferent, neutral party.

Cons:

On the other side of the Cat’s dignity is snobbish pride. He doesn’t like being kissed or carried around like a baby, and will even go to the trouble of finding homeless street kittens for Beka’s friends to play with instead of his noble self. Cats do not like to be wrong, and the Cat takes some care so that he never seems to make a mistake. He prefers to be angry rather than scared and coy rather than confused. He furthers this illusion by choosing not to speak up or to hint vaguely when he knows something that his companions don’t. It bothers him how often he isn’t able to help his friends because it’s against the rules, but he would never let it show. As a result he can often come across as apathetic and cold.

Like a cat, he is a master manipulator. He’s good at figuring out who he can butter up with affection and who will respond better to directness. This explains most of his seemingly secretive behavior. Most people will react poorly to a talking cat, so he doesn’t talk. Instead he acts like a normal stupid cat and begs scraps or demands affection in such a way that the average person will oblige. As Beka tells Farmer, he isn’t shy about letting people know what exactly he is. He prefers to use the information strategically in order to get what he wants.

He is lazy, preferring to let others do things for him that he could just as well do for himself. This makes it harder than it might be for humans to notice his abnormality – unless he has a specific need, he eats the food that humans give him and goes through doors when they’re open. It takes some time living with him to realize that closed doors, even locked doors mean nothing to him. This is not a symptom of selfishness. He acts for the benefit of others on many occasions, and even inconveniences himself to take care of what constellations stay in the sky when there’s a need. He is simply a lazy cat, whose instinct and personality tell him to conserve energy for when he truly needs it.

Powers/Abilities:
As a constellation the Cat in mortal shape is immortal and able to heal himself quickly. His mortal body can be killed only by a killing blow, any hit strong enough to kill him in one go. He is able to perform all manners of magic, most of which are small practical things. He can clean things with magic, cut up meat for himself to eat, get out of basically anywhere, roar like a lion, teleport, disappear, turn himself invisible to anyone but those he wants to see him. These are for the most part telekinetic and illusory abilities. He does not display any more showy magic powers.

The easiest way to describe how the Cat communicates is to call him a telepath. It is stated that Gods are able to see into the minds of mortals, but choose not to for whatever reason. It is suggested that the Cat is able to read minds as well, though it appears that he must consciously choose to do so. Sometimes his cat noises correspond with human noises, such as laughter. Sometimes his cat noises inexplicably translate themselves in the hearer’s mind as human words. Sometimes he speaks directly mind to mind. In all of these cases he is able to choose who understands him and who does not.

As all of these powers will have to be nullified, he will instead function entirely as a mortal cat. This won't be difficult, since this is most of how he operates normally. Speech will still be possible, but will be limited to cat noises that inexplicably make sense as human speech.
